ORCHARDS & OLIVES

Central Otago is famous for its stone fruit and olives, and Tarras is part of the picture.

The climate can be challenging for growers: protection from spring frosts requires constant vigilance. However, over 2,100 sunshine hours per year means hot, dry summer days that ripen the fruit, and long daylight hours help to prolong the growing season.

Large-scale cherry and apricot orchards and the high tech Lindis Coolpac Ltd. Packhouse have recently been established in the area, to process and pack cherries grown at Lindis Peaks and Mt Pisa, and cherries and apricots from Ardgour Valley Orchards.
